Richard, Anderson, Lucy & Lindsey The heart behind Raising Light, and the people who light my world.

Hi, I’m Lindsey—wife, homeschooling mom, animal lover, and cappuccino enthusiast with a heart full of stories and a deep love for teaching and learning.
I started Raising Light to share our journey of parenting with purpose. As a former teacher, wildlife rehabilitator, Realtor, and dog trainer turned full-time mom, I’ve walked an unexpected and beautiful path that led me to home education and a deeper faith.
My daughter, Lucy, is the light of my life—and the daily inspiration behind much of this blog. Her name literally means “light,” and I believe every child carries their own unique glow. I don’t believe Lucy is “gifted.” I believe she’s glowing and growing because she’s loved, encouraged, and supported—and I truly believe your child can thrive in the same way.
Raising Light is a heartfelt memoir blending faith, parenting, and personal growth through the eyes of a former teacher, Realtor, and wildlife rehabilitator turned full-time mother. With one child home-schooled and the other thriving in traditional school, Lindsey offers a refreshingly honest glimpse into the beauty and complexity of raising children in a blended family.
Told with warmth and wisdom, her story journeys through overcoming a learning disability label, navigating IVF and miscarriages, and witnessing the miracle of answered prayers. Through stories of outdoor learning, grace-filled discipline, character development, and everyday moments rooted in faith, this book uplifts parents striving to raise resilient, thoughtful, light-filled children—no matter their path.

Must Read for any Parent
This book is not a manual.
It’s a mosaic.
A collection of moments—messy, miraculous, and deeply
meaningful—that led me to discover that the most sacred kind
of learning begins at home. Not because home is perfect. But
because home is personal.
You’ll read a lot about Lucy in these pages. That’s not because
I love her more. It’s simply a matter of time. I’ve had the honor
of being with her every day since she was born—nursing her,
watching her take her first steps, and learning to read side by side
on our living room floor.
But this story isn’t only hers.
It’s also about Anderson—my stepson, who taught me what
it means to love with no strings attached. You’ll meet him
throughout the book, and though his chapters may look different,
his light is just as bright.
It’s also about Richard, my husband and partner in all things.
And it’s about me—the woman I was before motherhood, and
the one I’ve become since. It’s about growing up with dyslexia,
2
falling in love unexpectedly, and finding God’s fingerprints in the
folds of everyday life.
This book is about learning. Not just the kind that happens
in workbooks or lesson plans—but the kind that shapes who we
are. The kind that happens when a parent shows up, pays
attention, and chooses to nurture—not rush—a child’s unfolding
mind.
And if this book finds you somewhere in the middle of your
own story—tired, uncertain, or simply trying to raise your kids
with a little more light—
Then know this:
You’re not alone.
And I’m so glad you’re here
Here’s where real life meets radiant light. This blog is a collection of our family’s moments—some ordinary, some sacred, all full of heart. Whether we’re sharing a parenting breakthrough (or breakdown), a lesson learned through play, or a glimpse of growth through faith, our hope is that something here meets you exactly where you are.
